Does Not Disappoint

"The Dream of the Burning Boy" deals with the aftermath of the sudden death of a popular high school student.
David West Read has succeeded in portraying not one, but six different viewpoints on sudden loss, which together convey a great deal about the way that people of all ages come to terms with death. The dialogue is spot-on and the characters are satisfyingly well-developed. The high school students, in particular, are heartbreakingly authentic in their attempts to rationalize and accept significant loss for the first time. In addition, Read manages to blend profound sadness with a number of fine comic moments. As the play unfolds and the characters tell their own stories, you are left with a strong feeling that all of these people will survive- that, in truth, they have no other option.

This is an excellent play for young actors. Funny, moving, and full of great scenes. I would strongly recommend it.
