Great Book

I used to have a copy of this book. It is a great book for getting started in HO model railroading. It probably is a bit dated in the items the authors uses and recommends but the techniques used should still apply. It starts simple and then build upon the initial layout in phases allowing you to enjoy your work between phases. Actually I'm in here to buy another copy for my self. I highly recommend this book.

A nostalgic favorite

This book is out of print, but a nostalgic favorite for dads who built this railroad with their kids. It's still a great design but the text is rather dated (b/w pictures & techniques). It takes the build through a series of stages so you will have a working railroad after each stage (great for kids who might lose interest otherwise). I might build this design again with new technology. I had to have it in my RR library.

Bought first ed as a teen when going from toy trains to scale model railroading. Still going strong. Techniques have advanced since then, especially in scenery techniques and command control (visit your hobby shop for the latest), but one could still build this layout to learn all the basics for a lifetime of model RR fun. Author is LINN Westcott (note error in Amazon listing.)

TOTAL WASTE OF MY MONEY

This book apparently was cut shorter and had NO PAGE NUMBERS. Ended up having to return the book early and rent another copy from someone else. TOTAL WASTE OF MY MONEY. First experience renting a textbook and not a happy person. If I could give it no stars I would.

Beautiful Art Book

This is a gorgeous book, if you or anyone else is interested in infographics and how they are made, this is well worth the price. It is an enormous hardback with many pages dedicated to the design of the infographics. The only caveat is that the art of the graphics is the focus, so you can't really read most of them as they are stand alone, without the accompanying article. Many are lacking the Info- part.

A small book, yet a big resource for renewing yourself daily

The book highlights some of the more well known quotes from the bible. The text is broken down into subjects areas which highlight personal needs for quick reference. Easy to read and wonderful for the soul. A book which all will appreciate and be touched by.

An encouraging book and wonderful gift for those going through trials.

My family was given this book when my mother was dying of cancer. Since that time, I have no idea how many times I've opened it up again and browsed through it. The version I have is leather bound, and has thin pages like those you'd find in a Bible. It came in a box, which has helped it stay nice through the years. I personally would recommend buying the leather edition rather than the paperback; It makes a better looking, more sturdy gift.

I have so often used this book when trying to think of appropriate verses to add to the letters and cards I send to others. I plan to buy a couple copies to give to people who are going through trials right now.

For the most part the verses are organized in a helpful manner, and I enjoy reflecting on them when I feel discouraged, anxious, etc. There are 9 sections, with numerous sub-sections. For example, under the section titled "Jesus is Your ...", some of the subsections are "Savior", "Lord", "Love", etc. Other sections include: The Bible is Your ... What to Do When You Feel... What to Do When You Are ... What To Do When ... What the Bible Has to Say About ... Truth From the Bible About ... What You Can Do To ... God's Plan for Salvation.

Personally, my husband and I believe that a few of the verses, especially those found in the sections relating to Physical Sickness and Finanical Trouble, are not always applicable to us today. In some cases, they are taken out of context. (We are not promised that He will physically heal our ailments today the way Jesus and his disciples healed people while on Earth.) However, I would not let those few verses deter me from giving this as a gift.

Not worth it

Hi. This book is not good at all. The first sentence begins with "Now here's ... to teach a little something about exciting, dynamic poses." So I'm guessing an intern was used to edit the book. The book's pictures are poorly drawn "manga inspired drawings." The first pictures are exaggerated cheap poses with a not-so manga character. There were also a couple of horribly compiled pictures in the book that made me regret purchasing it. The book is made poorly, as well, there are small paragraphs randomly placed on each page close to a poorly drawn example. Towards the end of the book Ben began talking about the horizon line and word bubbles. All of the information is correct, but every other manga book I have seen consists of the same "creating manga" subjects with more detail and far better examples. I tried to find reviews on this book before I purchased it, but failed. Now I'm posting this waring- the book will work but it is poorly made, with no effort, and there are many other books that cover exactly what this books covers. I am disappointed because the picture on the cover is a professional looking manga picture, but nothing within the pages comes close to this.

For just purely information purposes manga for dummies or the idiots guide to manga will cover much more "how-to" with better artwork. Oh ya I purchased the "how to not draw manga book," (same publisher) and thought it was great; the ironic part is that I wanted to see what AP's actual "how to draw manga" book would look like and half of the stuff in the actual book disobeys the rules laid down in the How NOT to do it book. I think it's pathetic considering this book came out three years after the gag manga.
