Action adventure love story between two worlds.

A populated Mars in need of more space looks into spreading to other worlds. When Earth is discovered, the majority are against conquering the existing civilization. Tao, a Mercutian who rebelled against the passive government, pushed through his plans to conquer Earth. Miela, the oldest daughter of one of the top families decides to make the dangerous journey to Earth to warn the people of Earth of Tao's plans. She meets Alan, son of the head of the Harvard observatory staff. As her story unfolds, Alan falls in love with the beautiful, winged Miela. She persuades him to go with her to Mars to stop Tao from taking over both planets. There are four main characters, two Marcutains and two Earthers working together to stop the one man that would destroy the civilizations of both worlds, making himself leader above all. Imaginative, delightful, and enjoyable to young and old.

Adventures on Mercury

The Fire People is what most would describe as science fantasy. We are transported to a vividly developed planet with different races and civilizations. This 1920 story is a prequel to the Tama of the Light Country trilogy. It partly reflects the fact that much less was known about this planet back then and partly that it is a work of sheer imagination, perhaps wish fulfillment fantasy. It contains Cummings' sense of wonder and love of the exotic. When he sends you to an alien planet it is exactly that. To me the strongest point about this story is its thoroughgoing realization. It has characters I really care about, you get into their minds and live among these strange people and their ways. Unlike much contemporary fiction, it has a good moral compass.

The people of mercury, desiring more living space, led by Tao, who recruited many followers sent a spaceship to Earth as a trial balloon to test their weapons against our technology. The oldest daughter of one of Mercury;s aristocratic families decides to go to Earth to warn us of the impending danger. Miela meets Alan, son of the Harvard observatory staff. They become deeply involved in the fight to save the Earth from this foreign invasion and Mercury from Tao's tyrannical dictatorship. This is a great action adventure novel!

Great Story for Readers of All Ages!

I just finished reading “The Education of Little Tree” for the second time and I highly recommend it to people of all ages. Its charm lies in its point of view: an Indian boy sharing what he’s learned of the world around him through adventures with his Cherokee grandparents in the Tennessee mountains of Depression era America. We get the child’s impression of local characters, of bloviating politicians, of the illegal whiskey trade and of the casual prejudice of white people (which he often poignantly misinterprets). There are laugh-out-loud scenes, as when two bootleggers from the city undergo a hilarious hazing into the ways of the mountains. There are also tear-inducing scenes, as when Little Tree is taken from his grandparents by the heartless social work bureaucracy.

Through all of Little Tree’s adventures, the reader learns along with him. It’s a fun, touching and memorable journey. “The Education of Little Tree” is a wonderful book to share with friends of all ages. I’ve made a point of giving it to friends who are not big readers because it is so easy to read, and Little Tree’s adventures immediately draw them into the story. It makes reading fun and also conveys many important lessons about people, life and the natural world we inhabit. I love this book, and the movie they made from it is also outstanding.

Worthy of Being Called a Classic

Generally, I find it helpful to know something of an author prior to reading their work. I like to know something about their history and life and see if I can find those threads in what I am reading. Here, though, the author's backstory is puzzling. Carter, whose real name was Asa Earl Carter, was a Ku Klux Klan member and sometime author. His writings are puzzling in light of his beliefs and the way he lived his life.

In this story, Little Tree is a five-year old boy whose parents have just died. He goes to live with his Cherokee grandparents in the hills of Tennessee. His grandparents are the descendants of those who refused to walk the Trail of Tears and instead hid in the mountains and continued their way of life as best they could. The story of Little Tree and his grandfather was so amazing and so beautiful. Because I come from a rural mountain way of life, reading of the closeness of the boy with his grandparents was so tender and touching for me. I cried at several points through the book and sobbed the last few chapters. This is an intergenerational story of heartache, traditions, ways of life and ancient wisdoms--it is a classic in every sense and deserves that rating. Carter tells of Little Tree's education in his native American heritage, in how to live with a mountain, and the important of family. Yet, the book is never one that preaches, just tells a story about a boy and his family that you desperately wished had been true. In short, I loved every word, in spite of the author and his intentions--if he had any.

I suppose, in regards to the author, I prefer to think this work of beauty in some way apologizes for his hatred in life, even if he didn't mean it to be that way. The work is so hauntingly beautiful and paints such a touching tender portrait of a lost way of life. Maybe Carter's soul wasn't all bad, just torn and conflicted--trying to bridge between how he grew up and a larger truth about life. That's what I'm walking away with.

This book was absolutely wonderful. My wife and I are expecting a baby in October and this book has helped us get our dogs ready. I have tried a number of things with dogs in terms of training with no success. Our dogs responded well to this instruction and are continuing to improve. The book itself is a very easy read. 119 pages took me about 2 hours to read and I consider myself a very slow reader. The instructions are simple and avoid complicating things. My wife was concerned about one of our dogs with the new baby coming, so I reached out to the author on his website. Not only did he email me back within hours of me sending him a message, he set aside time during his vacation to speak with me on the phone for roughly 30+minutes. His instruction on the phone was comforting to our specific situation and put both me wife and I at ease. I encourage anyone expecting a child, and has dogs, to read this book and implement it into their lives.

Pretty good book with detailed chapters for any problem that can occur. But absolutely useless if your dog is ok in general: obeys, doesn't destroy anything, isn't aggressive or/and food/toy protective.

Great decluttering book.

Great decluttering book.

I strongly prefer this approach to the Japanese approach, mostly because this approach is more gradual and forgiving. The Japanese book simply set the bar too high for the likes of me. With this book and its lower standards, I'm actually making some progress for the first time. Also,this one's a great source of app recommendations, and it also covers electronic decluttering.

Friends with the author BUT STILL READ THIS!

Ok. Look. I'm friends with Fay. I even hired her years and years ago to help me organize and declutter my home and have been using her techniques ever since. So, OF COURSE, I pre-ordered her book. I mean, I adore her. But I don't really need the book... I'm pretty organized and don't have that much stuff to get rid of anymore.
Um.
Wrong.
I opened the book just to thumb through it so I could tell her I liked it and LITERALLY (and I do mean that word literally) 5 minutes later, the book was on the coffee table and I was riffling through my book cases removing lots of my old theatre plays that I haven't touched in 16+ years. Fay has a way of framing decluttering that's inspired and truly inspiring. In essence, if you're holding on to tons and tons of things from your past, then there's little to no room for your future. In truth, I've not been a theatre actor in YEARS. I'm transitioning into being a film and TV director. But all of my film and TV directing books where in a pile way under my desk because I had no room on my shelves for them. In minutes of thumbing thru Fay's book, I realized holding on to my past was literally in the way of the future I'm creating for myself. (Side note: I didn't get rid of all the plays... and Fay would back me up on this...because a FEW of them still have sentimental value for me. She's all about keeping what's important to you. Just not FIVE shelves of "important")
I still have not finished New Order. Every time I pick it up, I go thru another purge. Yesterday, I picked it up and the next thing I knew I was going thru an old stationary box filled with business cards. I didn't even know who half of these people where NOR what they did for a living. I got rid of half of them. (side note: Fay set me up with that box to put my business cards in about 9 years ago. FAY- I KNOW I should put all of the contact info from those cards into my computer and get rid of ALL the cards... But like you said, Small Steps, right?! :-)
You can not HELP but be moved to action by this book.
And that is the honest to God truth.

I have something in common with Emily Deschanel!

I bought this because I saw it on Bones and I'm a geek, but it turned out to be the best and possibly last organizing book I will ever buy. (And I've bought a few!) I like her relaxed attitude toward the whole process; she doesn't lay down any hard and fast rules or schedules, she focuses on improvement, no matter how small, and she's just genuinely encouraging. I copied her list of "Questions to Keep In Mind" and carry it with me as I work around the house so that if I'm stuck I can easily refer back to it. I also wrote two of my favorite quotes from the book on the page: "You are still a smart person, even without a copy of The Catcher in the Rye." and "Glossy magazines and slick tv shows rarely reflect real life." These are reminders (for me at least) to let go of perfection and what I think my house 'should' look like and just let it be a place to live our happy lives, in the present, letting go of STUFF!! I've been working on 'The Great Purge' for years but I've made more progress since reading this book than ever before. Thanks, Bones!!

This�text�provides a comprehensive and concise treatment of the topic of traffic flow theory and includes several topics relevant to today’s highway transportation system.�It provides the fundamental principles of traffic flow theory as well as applications of those principles for evaluating specific types of facilities (freeways, intersections, etc.).� Newer concepts of Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and their potential impact on traffic flow are discussed. State-of-the-art in traffic flow research and microscopic traffic analysis and traffic simulation have significantly advanced and are also discussed in this text. Real world examples and useful problem sets complement each chapter.

This textbook is meant for use in advanced undergraduate/graduate level courses in traffic flow theory with prerequisites including two semesters of calculus, statistics, and an introductory course in transportation. The text would also be of interest to transportation professionals as a refresher in traffic flow theory, or as a reference.� Students and engineers of diverse backgrounds will find this text accessible and applicable to today’s traffic issues.

About the Author
Dr. Lily Elefteriadou is the Director of the Transportation Research Center and Kisinger Campo Professor of Civil and Coastal Engineering at the University of Florida. She received her M.S. in Civil Engineering from Auburn University, and her Ph.D. in Transportation Planning and Engineering from Polytechnic University in New York. Her 2010 paper "A Driver Behavior Based Lane-Changing Model and Its Implementation in CORSIM," co-authored with Daniel Jian Sun, was awarded Best Model Development Paper by the Transportation Research Board. She is also the recipient of the 2003 Outstanding Research Award from Penn State Engineering Society, as well as a Fulbright Scholar.

Author Vivienne Zhang is a native Chinese speaker fluent in English who has been translating, interpreting and teaching for many years. She has tried, tested and perfected various lessons and techniques that apply well to Chinese studies. These modern techniques are now published in a series of four books.

Each book teaches the reader both Pinyin and Hanzi (Chinese characters). One of the unique features in these books is the literal translation into English of common Chinese expressions and vocabulary. For example, you can often see the annotation “lit.” with the grammar points in BOOK 2, showing the direct translation of the Chinese text. This technique reinforces an understanding of sentence structure and grammar which has proven to be instrumental in helping the students and readers to retain the Chinese that they have already learned. Other Chinese language books do not use this approach.

In BOOK 2, Part 1 provides more grammar points which continue from BOOK 1. There are useful examples to help you grasp each of the grammar points. Part 1 is arranged in such a way that any topic in this part can be studied independently.

About the Author

After graduation from University in 2009, Vivienne worked as a freelance interpreter for many international companies such as Huawei, Samsung, Apple, Mercedes, Siemens, Areva, Peugeot, and others.

In 2010, Vivienne decided to fully dedicate herself to teaching Chinese language to foreign expats employed at those same multi-national companies where she worked as an interpreter before.

In 2012, based on the success of her teaching, Vivienne wrote a series of books that teach Chinese using her unique learning methods. These techniques have become very popular among her students and readers.

These books are wonderful

I found Book 1 to be very helpful in giving me a good foundation to grow into Book 2. I very much like that there is ample space on each topic to make notes. I have been practicing writing the Hanzi characters in the book next to the lessons. I find that writing helps me to retain the lesson. I especially like the "lit" or literal translations which are helping me to learn the difference between Chinese and English sentence structure. I highly recommend these books!

VERY EASY TO UNDERSTAND

I first ordered the Modern Chinese ebooks on iTunes, which is easier for me to read and review wherever I go. I also bought the paperbacks, which is easier for me to write notes and additional words. The book series are simple and very easy to understand:

Book 1 helps me learn how to correctly pronounce all words & correct grammar points. It introduces me to the Chinese language by learning Pinyin.
In Book 2, there are more grammar points that help me construct sentences, while book 3 focuses more on topics used everyday. It's useful for me because I can use them when communicating with Chinese suppliers.
Book 4 is the same as book 3, but focuses more on topics and words that I can use when traveling to China, and it also helps me to understand a bit of their culture.
